Details
Strengthening local government institutions is the desired goal of the people. Demands for democracy and local government have always driven each other. A representative of a local body based on democratic ideals can represent the interests of the people. It is essential to link local government bodies at every level of administration with the elected administration.
Articles 59 and 60 of the constitution of Bangladesh contain an outline of local government which describes the functioning of management with elected representatives so that the administration can effectively involve the people for each unit. It is imperative to ensure the functioning of effective local government institutions in proportion to constitutional requirements and to institutionalize democratic aspirations in all regions.
